⚰️Post Mortem:
I’m going to say something that may put me in the minority: I really liked Scream 7.
The critics? Not so much. At the time of this review, the film sits at just 30% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences have been much kinder at 73%. Honestly? I think the critics are missing what makes this movie work.
For me, Scream 7 is about legacy. It’s about returning to the characters who made this franchise what it is and giving longtime fans a chance to see them again, plus Kevin Williamson back in the director's chair.
I loved it.
Is it perfect? Absolutely not. There are plot points that require a little suspension of disbelief, and some of the newer characters don't have the same impact as the original Scream crew. But while the critics complain that the movie leans too heavily on nostalgia, I think nostalgia is the point.
After seven movies, Scream has earned the right to look backward. This isn't simply another Ghostface mystery dropped into the franchise. It's a celebration of where the series came from and the characters who carried it for three decades. Seeing Sidney and Gale again felt like coming home—and for a Scream fan, that's worth something.
And let's not forget what we're here for: Ghostface, the kills, the suspense and the fun of trying to figure out who's behind the mask.
Scream 7 delivers enough of all of that to keep me entertained.
Maybe I'm grading it differently because I'm not looking for Scream 7 to reinvent the franchise. I'm looking for it to continue the legacy. And on that front, I think it succeeds.
If you're a longtime Scream fan, watch it. Don't let the critics make the decision for you. Go in expecting a nostalgic, bloody return to Woodsboro's universe rather than another attempt to redefine the horror genre. Because sometimes the best reason to watch a Scream movie is simply this: Ghostface is back. Sidney is back. And I'm not ready to say goodbye.
🪦Final Judgment:
My Rating: 💀💀💀
Place in The Crypt: 🕯️ Worth a Watch
The Verdict: A nostalgic return to the roots of the franchise, Scream 7 may not satisfy critics looking for something new, but longtime fans will appreciate the returning characters, familiar legacy, and classic Ghostface fun.
